Exclusive, Complimentary Newseum Tour for ASBPE Members

Mark your calendars for Thursday, June 26, when ASBPE's DC Chapter will host a free, exclusive two-hour guided "Talk & Tour" of the Newseum, which re-opened in downtown Washington on April 11. The Newseum is the world's first interactive museum of news and has received critical acclaim for its exhibits and programs.

From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., we will view gallery exhibits on First Amendment rights, 9/11, the Berlin Wall, Pulitzer Prize photographs, and more.

Prior to the tour portion of the event, there will be a talk covering world press freedoms and a Q&A given by veteran broadcast journalist and Newseum Special Programs Director John Milewski. Milewski has extensive experience in moderating and interviewing, producing public affairs television programming and documentaries, and working with educators from around the world to create educational opportunities for students and adults. Currently he also is an instructor for Penn State University, where he teaches a course on politics and media.

Prior to joining the Newseum, for 20 years Milewski served as executive producer, managing editor, and host/moderator of Close Up on C-SPAN, one of the longest running news and public policy discussion programs in cable television history. In 2006, he served as interim producer of After Words, the flagship program of C-SPAN's Book TV lineup.

Over the years he has worked with high school and college students and teachers from South Central LA to Moscow, and from Indian reservations to Pacific Island U.S. territories. He has covered everything from presidential elections and Space Shuttle launches to the fall of the Berlin Wall. He has interviewed leaders of youth gangs and leaders of nations and has covered every presidential election since 1988, producing and hosting programs from every Republican and Democratic nominating convention since then. Most recently he covered the Democratic debate at Drexel University and the Republican debate at the University of Miami for the Newseum.

This private "Talk & Tour" promises to be informative and stimulating, as we discuss the issues journalists face every day.

Following the event there will be an optional informal happy hour at nearby 701 Pennsylvania Ave Restaurant and Bar for those interested (attendees will be responsible for their own food and drinks).
